Unlike acoustic and classical guitars, the shape of an electric guitar or bass does not significantly affect the way the instrument sounds or performs. Choose from our existing body shapes, or, send us a drawing of your original design - we can build that, too!Choose Body Core WoodAll our instruments are handcrafted from quality tone woods. If you're just starting out, we recommend you choose the wood that appeals to you most based on its appearance, and don't worry too much about how the type of wood affects the sound or performance of the instrument. The type of body wood used can affect the way an instrument sounds, but it does not make as big of an impact on the sound when compared to other aspects of the guitar, such as the pickups.Choose Body TopBody tops are optional. If you're just starting out, you should either skip this option, or choose the veneer top that appeals to you most.
We offer veneer tops (paper-thin layer of wood) and cap tops (thick layer of wood). Most people will add a top to their instrument because of the top’s naturally beautiful appearance.
Some people will add a top to their guitar because it can affect the overall sound of the instrument, too (only applies to cap tops, not veneers).Choose the Color for Body TopChoose the color you want for the body top. You can choose the color for the sides and back of the body later. You can choose whether you want the color to be solid, transparent, metallic, or gloss, and matte in a later step.Choose the Color for Body Sides and BackChoose the color you want for the sides and back of the body. Like custom shop cars and motorcycle, furniture. With Top Guitars it pertains to woodworking, most of us would define a custom shop as one dealing with made-to-order goods with certain specifications.
Someone comes into my realm with a certain vision. That vision may be on a set of architectural prints or still locked in their brain waiting for extraction. In either case, it’s a vision or plan that they have, not me.A good custom shop will have insight based on their experience that will help make the project better. That’s part of being custom — making concepts a reality.
But there is more to running a custom shop than simply having the ability and experience to create someone’s dream. Figuring out what that is requires a little digging. The concept is buried in first understanding the other meanings of the word custom. Although “made-to-order” is a correct characterization where you can personalized the headtsock with your name or initials and you can CUSTOMIZE YOUR GUITAR: Mahogany, Alder, Maple, Bass Wood, Right/Left handed guitar, Body colour, Neck profile, No dots on fretboard and Fret size. Our Custom Shop Guitars referred to in this site as drawing 'inspiration' from the major guitar brands and any reference to custom shop brand names or 'Inspired by' are made strictly for comparison purposes only.Note: The concept is buried in first understanding the other meanings of the word custom. We put your new instrument through the demanding10-point inspection below:Fit & Finish. We visually check your instrument for any scratches, dings, finish flaws or other aesthetic imperfections. We also pay attention to the neck, bridge, tuners and any other part of the guitar that could be a loose or incorrect fit.Action. We ship our guitars with a target action of 3/32' at the Bass E, 12th fret. Everyone is different. There is no such thing as one perfect setup.
It depends on what you want the guitar to feel like.Buzzes. Nothing drives me nuts more than a buzz. If there's a loose tuner bushing, rattling truss rod or any other similar symptom, we'll find it & fix it.Neck & Frets. We inspect the neck angle so that your guitar has the appropriate amount of saddle height and a good break angle. If there are any loose or high frets, we will address this problem too.Relief. Along with the action, neck relief can really make a difference in a guitar's playability. Too little and you can get fret buzz & poor volume.
Too much, and your guitar can be uncomfortable, especially in the middle of the neck.Intonation. Your new guitar should play in tune all the way up the neck. We inspect and adjust the intonation to ensure that you don't have any tuning problems higher up, with and without a capo.Electronics.
If your guitar comes with a pickup system (either from the factory or aftermarket) we will test it before it ships.
